SIBU: Police arrested three individuals in connection with the death of a sub-contractor, who was assaulted over the alleged theft of drugs.

District police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit confirmed the suspects, including a woman, were detained around 2am yesterday at Kampung Nyabor.

“Those arrested are aged between 23 and 48. We are in the process of tracking down another suspect, aged 41,” he said when contacted yesterday, adding police have classified the case as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

He said initial investigation indicated the deceased, aged 51, knew the four suspects.

According to him, the victim was found by police unconscious inside his four-wheel-drive vehicle at Jalan Lanang around 7.15am on Saturday.

The victim, who had injuries on his face, left arm and right leg, was rushed to Sibu Hospital where he succumbed around 10pm the same day.

Stanley said the beating is believed to have stemmed from an earlier incident during which the victim’s girlfriend was confined by the suspects, who accused her of stealing drugs from them.

The girlfriend, however, managed to escape and lodged a police report over the incident.

Following her escape, the suspects went after the victim instead and accused him of being party to the alleged theft of drugs by his girlfriend, before beating him up.
