MIRI: Civil Defence Force (APM) personnel helped to catch a python measuring around five and a half feet, after it had feasted on chickens at Kampung Lopeng Tengah on Wednesday.

APM Miri Division officer Mohd Hazle Shah Abdul Hamid said a team of three trained snake handlers led by Pvt (PA) Sabri Maula went to the scene after receiving a report at 8.39am.

The 24-year-old homeowner had discovered the python while walking around the compound.

Upon their arrival, APM personnel spotted the python, which had a swollen belly, slithering through the grass near a chicken coop.

Using special equipment, the APM personnel caught the rather well-fed reptile and brought it back to the Miri Operations Control Centre.

In another case, a man in his 50s contacted APM at 5.23pm on Tuesday after coming across a snake at a Chinese temple in Tudan Road.

“I saw something moving on the stairs and, after a closer look, I realised that it was a snake slithering its way down,” he told APM personnel.

Three APM Miri personnel led by Pvt (PA) Helini Jaman arrived at the scene at 6pm.

They managed to catch the reptile, which measured around one foot in length, at the edge of the temple stairs.

The snake was also taken to the Miri Operations Control Centre.
