‘Innovation and research nourish youths’

MIRI: Innovation competitions as well as research programmes have to be held more often to nourish the aspirations of youths and help achieve the national development goal.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Sarawak Community College Innovation Competition and Research Seminar 2018 (ReInoTech CC 18) here Thursay, Miri District Officer Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusuf said everyone needs to mobilise every available resource to promote the country’s Science and Technology agenda by continuous research and innovation.

Abdul Aziz who was representing Miri Resident Sherrina Husaini hoped that such programmes would help to unearth a wide range of innovative products that contribute to development in various fields.

Meanwhile, director of Research and Innovation Centre, Polytechnic and Community College Department Dr Ishak Mohamad said the programme is the best platform to encourage research and innovation.

“Yearly research and innovation helps lecturers transform their teaching and strengthen the delivery of knowledge.

“ReInoTech CC has been an annual programme since 2012 with tremendous increase in the involvement of lecturers especially in Sarawak, to strengthen innovation and research in line with the National Education Development Plan and national missions,” he said.

Among the colleges involved in ReInoTech CC 2018 were Kuching Community College, Mas Gading Community College, Santubong Community College, Betong Community College, Sarikei Community College and Miri Community College.

There were 18 entries for ReInotech Innovation Competition with 14 ReInoTech research papers presented to the panel of judges.

For the Innovation (Technical Science) competition, Miri Community College team was the champion with ‘Com8 All in One Phone Device’, Santubong Community College team was second with ‘IOT: Office Lighting’ and Miri Community College came third with ‘Hand Shield’ innovation.

For the Social Science category, Miri Community College team won first place with ‘Quality 1st (KKMS Quality Unit Padlet System)’, Mas Gading Community College team came in second place with ‘V-Reservation’ followed by the Mas Gading Community College team with ‘Laluan Berliku’.

Santubong and Mas Gading Community College team comprising Nazrina Bakar, Mohd Faizal Affendy and Marini Serojai won the best research paper with ‘Lecturer’s Readiness in Using Game-Based Learning in the Teaching Process’ while Munallahei Meges from Miri Community College won the best presenter.

The ReInoTech CC 2018 was organised by Miri Community College and Sarawak Regional Community College in collaboration with Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, Miri.
