10th Sibu International BASE Jump thrills the crowd

SIBU: The 10th Edition of Sibu International BASE Jump 2018 lived up to expectations as a crowd puller.

Locals and visitors from all walks of life turned up as early as an hour before the show to catch the BASE jumpers plunge from the 126m tall Wisma Sanyan – Sarawak’s tallest building.

There is little doubt that the crowd and ‘brave hearts’ both shared a high adrenalin rush as the show thrilled the jumpers and spectators alike .

The annual event is organised by Sibu Resident Office in collaboration with Malaysia BASE Association.

BASE is an acronym that stands for four categories of fixed objects from which a person can jump from namely Buildings, Antannae, Spans (bridge) and Earth (cliff).

A total of 34 BASE jumpers from around the world converged in Sibu for this 10th Edition.

They came from as far as Russia, France, Canada, United States, Germany, Finland, United Kingdom, Belarus, Belgium, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, Estonia and also Malaysia.

A carnival is also being held from Sept 12-23 in conjunction with the event.

Activities include superhero costume competition for jumpers, Kenyalang Strongman Competition, kite flying, buskers, line dancing, Sukan Rakyat skateboard competition, colouring competition for children, walk-a-mile, awareness programmes for rabies and Hand Food and Mouth Disease, cooking competition and cultural performances.
