KUCHING: The Sarawak government has a new income model to raise funds for financing all its development projects, which will be tabled during the State Legislative Assembly sitting in November.

According to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, with the new model, Sarawak’s income would be substantially raised apart from having a bank to call its own – Development Bank of Sarawak (DBOS).

“We actually have different income models capable of generating our economy. I will announce the budget later but I believe that with the new model, we can also have new additional earnings,” he said at the 30th anniversary dinner of Malay Importers and Traders of Motor Vehicles Malaysia (Pekema) Sarawakat a hotel here last Friday.

He also said Sarawak had decided to increase the allocation to develop basic infrastructure in rural areas, which also would be tabled during the November DUN sitting.

“My friends and I in the government have decided to develop the rural areas. We will increase allocation for it to build basic amenities including water and electricity supplies,” he said.

Meanwhile during the event, Abang Johari called on the automotive industry players to adapt to the changing technology and international requirements to keep pace with the times.

“We know that the motor industry has to depend on oil to move, but in this case the environment is key. Today, many people want a clean and carbon-free environment and if anyone wants to see that happens, vehicle technologies will also have to change.”

He also reminded them to be alert to changes such as the market needs and the trend of buyers or consumers who wanted to see vehicles having all the requirements of international standards, especially when it came to the environment.

Abang Johari’s wife Datin Patinggi Datuk Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang, Deputy DUN Speaker Datuk Gerawat Gala and Pekema Sarawak president Tan Sri Dato Sri Abang Khalid Abang Marzuki were among those present at the dinner.
