SIBU: Next year’s edition of Sibu International BASE Jump will be held on a larger scale, says Sibu Resident Charles Siaw.

However, he said the proposed competition for the most number of jumps by a participant would not be one of the additions to the event.

“Due to safety reason, such competitions are not encouraged. We have to put safety first,” he told The Borneo Post yesterday.

This year’s event saw many new activities such as the Kenyalang Strongmen Competition, kite-flying, rabies awareness programme, walk-a-mile, night ride and telematches, besides a 12-day carnival running from Sept 12 till 23 to mark event.

Meanwhile, nearly 800 jumps were made throughout the four days of the event, which ended Sunday, with Greg McEntee from Ireland making the most jumps at 48.

BASE jumpers from the United States, United Kingdom, Belarus, Belgium, Canada, Estonia, Ireland, New Zealand, Russia, Finland, France, Germany, Australia and
Malaysia took part in this year’s edition.
