KUCHING: After toiling for two days, a baker, Noor Asmah Mohamed Mokhtar, 42, has baked a 60 kg chocolate-flavoured mooncake, a traditional Chinese delicacy served during the Mid-Autumn Festival.
Measuring 63.5 cm in diametre, Kak Semah, as she is affectionately known said the mooncake was not for sale and was for display at her stall in conjunction with the Mooncake Festival at Lebuh Carpenter which ended last night.
Kak Semah said she made the giant mooncake with the help of her assistants Dayang Sajida Abang Burhanuddin, 27, Mohamad Ghazali Mohamad Sula, 32 and Lee Chee Teck, 29.
“This cake is made up of four layers of chocolate cake.
Swiss roll cakes are arranged around it before fondant icing is placed on top of the cake,” the home-based entrepreneur told Bernama here.
She said the decorating process, from 11am to 5.30pm, was done by spraying a light brown food colouring onto the chocolate cake to give it an original mooncake colour.
“The mooncake is made as an appreciation for the invitation by the Mooncake Festival organisers (Kuching Division Community Association and Kuching Old Market Community Association), who for the first time invited a Malay mooncake maker to join the festival,” she said. — Bernama
