MIRI: The spread of rabies to Miri Division affects only dogs in the city area so far.

Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting said the Veterinary Department confirmed that only samples taken from dogs in Piasau Jaya and Lutong Shell were tested rabies positive.

However, he cautioned people living in other areas here to also exercise care and seek immediate medical attention if they were bitten by dogs.

Ting was speaking to reporters after visiting the Miri Dvisional Health Office yesterday where he was briefed on plans to contain the rabies outbreak here by Miri Hospital director Dr Jack Wong and senior officials of the department.

Ting added that the hospital and the Miri Health Office are ready to implement measures to curb the spread of the disease.

“Currently there are enough vaccines at the hospital to cater for human,” he said.
