KUCHING: The arrest of two metal theft suspects at Kampung Semariang Batu here on Monday led to the recovery of a stolen motorcycle.

The pair, aged 20 and 40, was initially detained by members of the village security bureau when they showed up trying to sell metal parts, suspected to be stolen items.

Police were called in to take custody of the two men, during which an inspection of their motorcycle revealed that it matched one that was reported stolen about two years ago.

District police chief ACP Ng Ah Lek, when contacted, said the motorcycle was reported missing from a parking space along Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman.

“The machine, worth RM3,500, was reported stolen two years ago, on Nov 24. The suspects revealed that (there were) two other accomplices,” he said.

Ng said police are now working to track down the other two suspects who are still at large, and called for the community to continue channelling information to the police in the fight against crime.

Police are investigating the case under Section 379 of the Penal Code for motorcycle theft.
