SIBU: Taekwondo exponent Tie Sing Da brought honour to SMK Chung Cheng when he bagged a silver medal in last month’s Perak Sukma.

While contented with his performance the 20-year-old from the school’s taekwondo club is hoping “the achievement will spur me to work harder as I vie for a slot in the national squad.”

Recently the school taekwondo team collected three gold, three silver and a bronze to emerge in third place in the state-level Inter-School Championship held here.

Last weekend, SMK Chung Cheng Alumni Association chairperson Kapitan Datuk Janet Lau threw a luncheon to mark the achievements of the school taekwondo club.

‘This is something worth emulating as we all stand proud for the good work done by our taekwondo exponents,” she said.

Meanwhile, Tie received incentives from the alumni association and also from Rejang Taekwondo Club (RTC).

RTC chief coach Thomas Tang commended Tie for his hardwork and outstanding achievement.

“Tie has been putting in tremendous efforts during his training stint with us and it’s just unfortunate that he could not bring back the gold medal,” he said.
