KUCHING: The electricity supply to a total of 55 illegal gambling premises have been disconnected as an approach to stop their operations.

Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Azman Yusof said it is by-law that the police are giving order to Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) to disconnect the electricity supply to these premises.

“Despite the actions (raids) of the police on these premises. The operators are still stubborn by using the same premises to conduct their illegal activities,” Azman Yusof told a press conference after the closing of the General Operations Force (PGA) basic training course at Pulapol here today.

He added that once the electricity supply to these premises are disconnected, the operators cannot power-up their equipment such as computers as well as other electrical appliances in the premises.

“I would also like to express my gratitude to SEB for working together with the police to combat illegal gambling activities in the state,” he added.

On another note, Azman Yusof said it is instrumental for the PGA in Sarawak and Sabah to grow its numbers to beef-up safety along the Malaysian borders.

“I think that border safety is something that needs to be looked at seriously. We have to strategise our border’s safety especially against militant groups,” he said.

He said the Sarawak police are always on alert against any encroachments by militant groups or movements along the border lines.

“So far, there are no signs or information regarding the movement of militants going in or out through our borders,” he added.

Azman Yusof said the role of PGA along the border to assist the police is a positive step as they have managed to deter contraband and illegal immigrants from entering into Sarawak.

Also present at the ceremony was Pulapol Kuching commandant Datuk Azman Salim and other officers from the Sarawak police contingent and Bukit Aman.
