PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has confirmed the arrest of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor in connection with a money laundering probe after receiving consent to prosecute from the Attorney-General’s Chambers.

The MACC in a statement yesterday said the arrest was made at 3.20pm at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya yesterday.

“Following the arrest, Rosmah will face several charges under the Anti-Money Laundering, Prevention of Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of  Unlawful Activities Act (AMLATFPUAA) 2001.

“Rosmah will be brought to the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court on Oct 4 (today) at 8am to be charged,” MACC said.

Rosmah arrived at the MACC headquarters here at 10.45 am after being summoned by the commission to be questioned for the third time.

Media reports on Tuesday had said Rosmah had been asked to present herself to the MACC headquarters yesterday morning to assist its investigations.

She first presented herself to the MACC on June 5  to give a statement related to the MACC’s probe into SRC International Sdn Bhd. SRC was a subsidiary of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) before its was placed under the Finance Ministry in 2012.

On Sept 26, Rosmah was questioned by the MACC for almost 13 hours. Prior to this, the media had reported that Rosmah is likely to face more than  20 criminal charges, mostly related to money laundering.

On Sept 20, MACC deputy chief commissioner (Operations) Datuk Seri Azam Baki had said  that  the agency did not rule out the possibility that Rosmah might face charges soon.

Meanwhile, Najib  was called up for the fourth time by the police to record his statement over investigation into 1Malaysia Development Berhad at Menara KPJ, Jalan Tun Razak here yesterday.

The building houses the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Anti-Money Laundering Unit.

Najib’s presence there was confirmed by Pemantau Malaysia Baharu president  Datuk Lokman Noor Adam to reporters. Najib was said to have been taken into the building not through the main entrance.

Prior to this, Najib, who is Pekan Member of Parliament, was called up on Aug  27 and 30 and then on Sept 30 to record his statement on the case. — Bernama
