SIBU: Sibu Division Rugby Union (SDRU) is aiming to bounce back in the Bintulu Rugby 10-a-side from Oct 13 to 14.

Sibu lifted the title for three consecutive years from 2012 to 2015 before Bintulu wrested the crown in 2016.

Despite Sibu’s ambition their chief coach Michael Ting is still expecting an uphill battle as he pointed to the presence of two Miri teams, Miri Rhinos and Miri Piranhas.

“However, the presence of our veteran Fijian captain Iowane Sovatabua will give our team huge confidence to bring back the title again,” he said.

The other participating teams are Kolej Vokasional, Sibu Goldies, Sibu Swallow, Sibu Army, Borneo Wanderers (all from Sibu) and host Bintulu Division Rugby Union.

Due to the clash of dates with Kuching Rugby 7-a-side championship which also falls on the same two days, the Bintulu championship will see fewer teams taking part.

“Nevertheless, all excitement are not lost as we still have the best of our players from 10 teams taking part in the Bintulu tournament,” Ting said.
