BINTULU: A man was sentenced to 10 years’ jail and ordered to be whipped 15 times for the physical sexual assault of his 11-year-old nephew.
The 32-year-old accused pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Norhamizah Shaifuddin to a charge under Section 14(d) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, punishable under Section 14 of the same Act.
He was arrested on Sept 25 following a police report lodged by a staff of Bintulu Hospital, where the boy had been brought for treatment on suspicion of having been physically abused.
The court was told that the victim lived with his grandparents and the accused, who is his paternal uncle. The whereabouts of his parents are unknown.
DPP Muhammad Nor Sollihin Salleh prosecuted while the accused was unrepresented.
