Sabah one of the states with good potential in agriculture

KUCHING: Sabah has been named by Agrobank during its ‘Agenda Agro’ event as one of the states in Malaysia with good potential in the agriculture sector.

According to president / chief executive officer Syed Alwi Mohamed Sultan, Agrobank is committed to assist agropreneurs to build their agri-business.

Agrobank provides comprehensive financing for agriculture businesses; from micro, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), commercial and corporate as long as it is related to agriculture.

Syed Alwi noted that Agrobank has recorded significant achievement with total financing surpass RM10 billion. As at September 2018, the total financing continued to expand to RM10.23 billion with the growth of 7.09 per cent amounting RM677.37 compared to December 2017.

“Sabah is one of the states in Malaysia with good potential in agriculture sector. As at September 2018, Sabah has recorded a total financing of RM961.66 million, a year-on-year increase of 16.64 per cent, which is higher than last year’s growth recorded of 6.51 per cent for the same period of time.

“This shows that the potential of agriculture sector in Sabah is still dynamic,” he said.

Agrobank recently organised a business networking session known as “Agenda Agro: Prospects and Opportunities in Agricultural Sector” in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. The event was attended by more than 100 Agrobank’s clients based in Sabah.

Agenda Agro is one of Agrobank’s initiatives to provide latest information and updates to Agrobank’s customer on the prospects and opportunities in agriculture sector.

Apart from that, this programme provides opportunity to the clients to interact with Agrobank’s employees and at the same time to obtain information on agriculture sector.

In addition, attendees were also exposed with information on government policies and initiatives that could help them to grow their socio-economic status and business.

At the same event, Agrobank also presented a certificate of appreciation to one AGROAgent; Pertuhuhan Peladang Kawasan (PPK) Kalabakan as top AGROAgent in Sabah AGROAgent is an agent appointed by Agrobank to provide basic transactions such as deposit of money and withdrawal, pay utility bills and top-up.

Since the launching of AGROAgents in 2014, 125 AGROAgents has been appointed in Sabah and in total, 876 AGROAgents is recorded nationwide.

Sabah was the seventh location chosen for Agenda Agro after Perlis, Pahang, Sarawak, Johor, Perak and Penang.
