SANDAKAN: Sandakan Municipal Council (SMC) President Datuk Peter Hii Chang Lik had personally inspected the site of Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd’s project with several SMC personnel and engineers last Tuesday.

The inspection was made following a complaint from a local resident near Mile 6 here, he said.

Peter Hii said the complainant, Lo Man Hing, had claimed that the project involving a drain, a road and a pipe tunnel undertaken by SESB was not satisfactory.

“After we inspected the site, we found that there was no problem at the site and the project done by SESB was completed and done well. Lo was also present during the inspection and after listening to the explanation by the engineers, he had also agreed that there was no problem at the site,” Peter Hii said.

Peter Hii said that the team then went to inspect Lo’s second complaint on a drain near the latter’s house at Taman Pertama, Mile 5, which he claimed was narrow and would not allow a smooth flow.

“We have inspected the said drain and found that water could flow smoothly; there was no problem. We suggested to Lo that if he sees the need to reconstruct the drain to make it wider, he should do it at his own expense. The council would be happy to give a letter of appreciation for his contribution,” he said.

At the end of the day, Lo was happy with the answers provided by the council, and has agreed to widen the drain near his house at his own expense.

Peter Hii and his entourage then went to inspect the market at Bandar Kim Fung, Mile 4, and received only one complaint from a hawker about a leaking water pipe at the market.

“I have gone to the ground to listen to complaints and problems by the public. At the market, there was only one complaint (about leaking pipe) and we will attend to the problem as soon as possible,” he added.
