MIRI: Schools here are encouraged to organise sports and co-curriculum carnivals to promote a positive as well as healthy lifestyle among students and teachers.

According to Miri MP Dr Michael Teo, such activities not only instil students with positive values but also motivate them to do better in school as well as boost their self-confidence.

“Programmes like this will increase the students’ confidence in facing future challenges and obstacles.

“Apart from that, it also fosters the spirit of cooperation, not only among students, but also among their parents and the school employees,” he said.

Dr Teo was speaking when officiating at the prize giving ceremony of SMK St Joseph Co-curriculum and Sports Carnival at the school yesterday.

Among those attending the ceremony was SMK St Joseph principal Ng Meng Heong.

Touching on the ceremony, Dr Teo hoped that the programme can be continuously held as a way to motivate students to pursue excellence.

“I hope this programme will regularly be held in the future, as it is one of the ways to motivate our students to succeed in their co-curriculum as well as their public examinations such as SPM,” he said.

The ceremony saw SMK St Joseph students being awarded for their participation in various sports events and competitions which were held throughout the school’s month-long sports and co-curriculum carnival.
