KUCHING: Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud received a courtesy call from the committee of the Sarawak Regatta-Kuching Waterfront Festival 2018 at the Astana here yesterday.

The group was led by Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, who is also minister-in-charge of the event.

The purpose of the courtesy call was to invite the Head of State to close the Sarawak Regatta-Kuching Waterfront Festival 2018 on Nov 4. The event starts on Oct 26 and will be officiated at by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Among those who accompanied Abdul Karim were Assistant Minister of E-Commerce Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais, Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports permanent secretary Hii Chang Kee, and Kuching Resident Ismail Mohamad Hanis.

Meanwhile, Taib received a second courtesy call yesterday from Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) Board of Governors chairman Dr Mohamed Hatta Shaharom.

During the visit, Mohamed Hatta and his entourage expressed their gratitude to Taib for his many contributions and continuous support to DBP in developing Bahasa Malaysia as the national language without putting aside other ethnic languages in the state. Among those who accompanied Mohamed Hatta included DBP Sarawak acting director Haliza Jamaluddin and DBP Sarawak research and development assistant director Santrol Abdullah.
