29 households under eKasih receive assistance

SEMATAN: Twenty-nine households here including two from Telok Melano and one from Telok Serabang received assistance during the two-day Poverty Eradication Programme held in Telok Melano near here recently.

Minister of Welfare, Community Well Being, Women, Family and Childhood Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah said the assistance came from the federal government through 1AZAM programme for households registered under eKasih.

“I hope the guidance and assistance provided by the government through this programme will enable them to work towards improving their family economic status, and contribute to the overall improvement of the community well being in Sarawak,” she said.

Her text of speech was read by Assistant Minister of Women, Family and Childhood Development Rosey Yunus at the closing of a Community Wellbeing Programme in Telok Melano here.

Fatimah said the two recipients from Telok Melano and one from Telok Serabang received aid in the form of starter kits under the AZAM Niaga programme.

“The two recipients are into the sewing business while the other one a car wash business,” she added.

Fatimah also said that based on her ministry’s records as of May this year, there were 40,669 heads of households who received welfare assistance statewide.

Out of this, 6,259 were in Kuching Division with 4,005 in Kuching District, 783 in Bau District and 1,471 in Lundu District

“Under Budget 2018, RM10 million has been allocated to Sarawak under the Poverty Eradication Programme to assist 1,645 heads of households registered under eKasih,” she said.

The Community Wellbeing Programme saw various activities held including cooking classes and telematches.

The ministry’s permanent secretary Dr Saadiah Abdul Samat was also present at the function.
