KUCHING: Sim Cats, a comic book by artist Adrian Hii was officially launched at Borneo Bengkel as part of the What About Kuching (WAK2018) programme yesterday.

According to Adrian who hails from Bintulu, the book was inspired by different breeds of cats from the world with some of the characters based on people he met while others are fictional.

“It all started when I got my hands on an encyclopedia on different breed of cats. It changed my world,” he said when interviewed at the launch yesterday.

Adrian admitted that it was not a walk in the park to get a comic book published, adding that at one point, he nearly gave up.

“I tried to get it published and got rejected many times. I even tried to publish the comic online but it did not work out as I had to pay a large sum of money,” he lamented.

He said he is lucky to have the support of his workplace (Data Print Centre), the ‘9Lives’ community and his friend known as William or ‘Carface Margybab’ who encouraged him to continue drawing.

When asked about his future plans, Adrian said he would most likely continue to produce part two of his comics based on the response to the first Sim Cat comic.

“I have no idea if this comic will sell at bookstores. For now, I am focusing on selling it at events or festivals,” said Hii.

Retailing at RM27 each, the comic book can be purchased by contacting Adrian at his Facebook page ‘Adrian Hii Comics’.
