KUCHING: A District Police Chief (KPD) attached in Sarawak was arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) at a restaurant in Sibu on Oct 11.

The arrest was made after the KPD had allegedly violated Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009 for receiving bribes amounting up to RM40,000 from an illegal 4D operator.

Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Azman Yusof, who confirmed the case, said the KPD with the rank of Deputy Superintendant of Police (DSP) is now under a four-day remand.

Following the KPD’s arrest in Sibu, another police officer with the rank of Inspector in Selangor was then called to the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya on last Friday night, where she too was arrested around 11.42pm – after her statement was recorded.

State MACC director Razim Mohd Noor when contacted, said the 38-year-old Inspector had posted bail amounting to RM10,000 with one surety.

“We will wait for the results and developments of the investigations carried out by MACC Putrajaya,” said Razim.

According to sources, the KPD, together with the Inspector had allegedly been working together to receive bribes from the illegal 4D operators.

The sources said the KPD would allegedly direct the illegal 4D operators to transfer money to the Inspector’s bank account where the money would later be transferred back to his bank account.

Both of them have been previously working together in Sarawak.
