KOTA KINABALU: The court here has extended the detention order on the 11 police officers and policemen who are being investigated for alleged involvement in corruption for three days.

Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus allowed the application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) yesterday, and extended the remand order till October 17.

Met by the media after the court proceedings, prosecuting officer, Mohd Faliq Basirudin said the remand extension would enable the MACC to expedite follow-up actions and to wrap up the investigation.

One of the suspects was represented by a lawyer in yesterday’s court hearing, he said. The initial remand order on the suspects expired yesterday.

On October 9, the 11 suspects were detained for investigation on suspicion of soliciting for and receiving bribes related to drug cases since 2014.

The MACC is carrying its investigation under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act, 2009.
