KOTA KINABALU: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Jaujan Sambakong has called on all government officials to make the best out of their tenures by carrying out their duties diligently.

Jaujan, who is also the Local Government and Housing Minister, reckoned that the tenure as a government official would often pass by quickly and thus those appointed should make the best out of their time.

“It would only last for a short while … I myself experienced this when I was working in Kuala Lumpur for about 30 years … it felt short.

“If we have served the people well, we will feel the joy and we will be satisfied; but, if there were inadequacies (during our tenure), we would regret it,” Jaujan said said in his speech at the Handing Over of Duties Ceremony for the Local Government and Housing Ministry’s (KKTP) Permanent Secretary on Tuesday.

Jaujan also said that everyone, including those holding lower positions would possess the capacity to become good government officials.

Thus, he urged those holding top positions to not look down at their subordinates as they too can help their department reach their goal.

The ceremony witnessed the handing over ceremony of duties from former KKTP Permanent Secretary Datuk Ginun Yangus to his successor Masnah Matsalleh.

In her speech, Masnah expressed her gratitude to the ministry for the appointment, which she described as a symbol of trust and honour that was vested upon her.

In giving a glimpse of her vision as the new Permanent Secretary, Masnah asserted that the KKTP had to move faster to deliver the aspirations of the people.

“The people are waiting for us,” she added.

Prior to being appointed as the Permanent Secretary for KKTP, Masnah served as the director for the Sabah Women’s Affairs Department (Jhewa).

Meanwhile, Ginun said he was honored to have been given the chance to serve as the Permanent Secretary for KKTP.

Even though he is officially retired, he vowed that he would continue to be ‘eyes and ears’ for KKTP from the ground.

“If there are any issues, I will let the ministry know through WhatsApp,” he quipped.

It is understood that Ginun held the position for more than two years.
