KUALA LUMPUR: Kinabatangan MP Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin today apologised for having used offensive language in the Dewan Rakyat last August.

He acknowledged that his having said ‘ f*** you!’ during the debate on the Sales Tax Bill 2018 on Aug 7 was unparliamentary and violated Standing Orders 36(4).

“I most regret having uttered those words and I sincerely apologise to the Speaker and this august House, especially the women MPs,” he said after the oral question session in the Dewan Rakyat.

Bung Moktar gave the assurance that he will not repeat it.

His apology was accepted by Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin who said it is hoped that all MPs will be able to debate with quality in making the Malaysian Parliament world-class.

Zuraida, who is Ampang MP, then retracted the motion to have Bung Moktar referred to the Rights and Privileges Committee that was on the agenda of today’s meeting.

“The new government adopts an open and tolerant attitude, so I hope we will discard the bad habits and uphold the image of this august House,” she said.

Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof considered the matter resolved, and thanked both sides for having raised the image of the House.

Following the retraction of the motion, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Liew Vui Keong tabled a motion to have the proceedings of the House postponed up to 4 pm to enable the tabling of the Midterm Review of the 11th Malaysia Plan 2018-2020 by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
