KOTA KINABALU: The Kota Kinabalu police contingent today disposed gambling machines and computer sets worth RM316,000 that were seized between 2002 to 2014.

City police chief ACP Habibi Majinji said among the items were 25 gambling machines, 395 monitors, 396 CPUs, 284 keyboards, 272 computer mouse and eight printers.

Also included were 122 chairs and 14 tables and RM537 in cash, he said.

“All the items were from illegal cyber gambling cases in the state capital,” he said, adding that the cases involved 48 cases between 2002 and 2014.

“The cases have been settled and we have received the court order to dispose of the evidence,” he told a press conference at the Kota Kinabalu police store unit in Kepayan.

Also present to witness the disposal of seized items were officials from the Sabah Environment Department, Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Public Works Department and Syarikat Legenda Bumimas Sdn Bhd.

Habibi said the Environmental Quality (Scheduled Wastes) Regulation 2005 under the Environmental Quality Act 1974 identified electronic waste as e-waste and it had been listed as scheduled waste by the Department of Environment (DoE) as it was flammable, corrosive, reactive and also toxic to the environment.

“That is why we are disposing the items through e-waste method,” he said.

Habibi added that the Kota Kinabalu police contingent (IPD KK) are serious in the fight against cyber gambling and stern action will be taken on all those involved in the illegal activity.

“We will not compromise with any individuals or parties who are involved.

“Those found carrying out this activity face action under Section 4B of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 which carries a fine of a minimum RM10,000 to a maximum of RM100,000 for each gambling machine seized as well as a jail term of not more than five years,” he said.
