Money-lending firm workers charged with assaulting borrower

BINTULU: Two workers of a licensed money lending company here were charged at the Magistrate’s Court yesterday for assaulting a borrower.

The pair, aged 24 and 25, was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt, read together with Section 34 of the same Act, which carries a one-year jail term or a fine of RM2,000 upon conviction.

No plea was recorded from the two accused, with the court setting Oct 24 for further mention.

Both were granted bail of RM2,000 each with two local sureties.

The two are alleged to have assaulted a 28-year-old man at Bintulu old town on Oct 12.

The victim was slapped and punched in the face following a misunderstanding over his monthly installment payment stemming from a RM3,800 loan.

Prosecuting officer was Insp Siti Mariyah Dahari while both accused were represented by Eric Lau.
