KUALA LUMPUR: The government yesterday paid RM208.8 million (US$50.31 million) in interest, arising from bonds issued by 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) Energy (Langat) Ltd, Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng announced here yesterday.

He said the government had two other debt payments, both to be paid in November, namely RM217.51 million (US$52.41 million) for 1MDB Energy Limited Bond, due on Nov 11, and RM143.75 million for the Sukuk Islamic Medium-Term Note, to be settled on Nov 29.

“This year, we have to fulfil RM1.69 billion in interest payments for 1MDB debts. Out of this figure, RM1.326 billion has been settled.

“We are committed to meeting our debt commitments.

“These are the interest payment and we will continue to make this payment.

““We are not in default, and at the same time, I think it is useful to inform Malaysians as this is the heavy price we have to pay
because of the 1MDB scandal,” Lim told reporters at the Parliament lobby here yesterday. — Bernama
