SIBU: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing is expected to appoint a replacement for the current secretary-general Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum who is likely to assume the vacant deputy president’s post at the party’s extraordinary delegates’ conference tomorrow.
Asked if any suitable candidate has been identified for the secretary-general’s post, a party insider said: “No idea…only the president knows…party president will appoint a new secretary-general.”
Speaking to The Borneo Post yesterday, the party insider also did not reveal when this post will be filled up.
The deputy president’s post was left vacant after the former Selangau MP and former Minister in Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Joseph Entulu was sacked on April 22 this year.
Four others sacked at the same time were supreme committee members Datuk William Nyallau Badak, Nyempah Sabot, Edward Kurik and Adriana Chumang.
Asked on the key issue in the party’s extraordinary delegates’ conference at a leading hotel here tomorrow, he said: “It is mainly for the election of a new deputy president since the post is vacant but it is uncontested (for the party’s number two post). This is a non-election year for the party and all the rest of the committee will remain.”
Asked if the four vacant posts in the supreme council will be filled up to replace those sacked previously, he said: “Not at the moment.”
The party insider also revealed that PRS will have its 14th anniversary dinner on Oct 20.
PRS fielded new faces Rita Insol in Selangau and Robert Pasang Alam in Lubok Antu in the 14th general election held on May 9.
In the polls, state PKR chief Baru Bian won in Selangau while Independent Jugah Muyang (who has since joined PKR) won in Lubok Antu.
PRS also lost its Julau seat (to Larry Sng) but retained Kanowit, Hulu Rajang and Sri Aman.
