KUCHING: Miss World Malaysia Larissa Ping Liew is currently spearheading a pilot project at SK Long Seridan, Marudi by facilitating the setup of a computer lab, restocking the school library and replacing some of the ceiling fans and lights.

The pilot project called ‘Indigenous Digital Outreach Programme’ is aimed at empowering the Penan youths at SK Long Seridan, through the use of digital technology, as well as to motivate them in their education pursuit.

By closing the digital gap between the indigenous communities and urban folk, more indigenous youths will be given the opportunity to receive better education.

The programme is held in collaboration with the Sarawak Multimedia Authority(SMA) and The Champions Kuching from Oct 18 to 23 at Long Seridan, Marudi.

The team is supported by Build For Tomorrow which will assist in the installation of solar powered street lights in the nearby Penan settlement.

The other partners in this outreach programme are Yayasan Sarawak, Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Bumiputera Sarawak (Tegas), Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, PC Image, HAUS KCH, and Water Genesis Sdn Bhd.

Larissa will return to Long Seridan, and also run this programme in other rural settlements after the Miss World final on Dec 8, in Sanya, China.
