Darell Leiking

PENAMPANG: Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) Deputy President Datuk Darell Leiking has defended the party against allegations that it is involved in issuing Malaysian identity cards to illegal immigrants.

Darell in fact has put his deputy presidency on the line and said he will resign from the party if there is any evidence to prove the accusation thrown against Warisan by certain quarters.

“There is no truth in the allegation. Show me proof and I will accompany you to lodge a police report,” he told reporters after officiating a job and education carnival here yesterday.

Warisan, he said is actually trying to resolve the perennial problem of illegal immigrants in Sabah.

“We (Warisan) have never given IC to illegal immigrants (as) I want to save Sabah also just like you. Show me the proof and I will go to the police station with you. And if you have proof that Warisan has given IC to illegal immigrant, I will quit the party. So enough of your lies, enough of bringing down the state government that is trying to solve the problem that has been created by the previous regime,” he said.

The Minister of International Trade and Industry said his anger at the issue stems of the fact that it affects the Kadazan Dusun Murut (KDM) community because some of those who are actively fanning the issue are from the KDM community.

“They keep on saying this as if we are doing something that is destroying our community. I am a Kadazan, I would be out of my mind if I issue IC to illegal immigrants.

“Yes there was ‘Projek IC’ before Warisan took over the state government and this is clearly shown in the Royal Commission of Inquiry in the presence of illegal immigrants in Sabah as well as mentioned in several books.

“So if you want to work with those people that is your right but don’t blame us, we are not that type of people. I am here and all of us including Datuk Seri Shafie are trying to correct what Sabah had suffered all these years. So stop creating problems for you and for your party or whoever you support,” said the Penampang Member of Parliament.

Sabahans, he said should berate the present state government on its failure to do its work and to bring in good for Sabah.

But don’t do it by lies because Sabahans must stop thinking like that, he said, adding, “We are better than that. I tell you if Sabahans are still stuck in that whirlpool we are going to be there forever. You will never get anywhere if you keep on believing their lies.”

To him those fanning the issue are doing it because they want to remain relevant.

“I know that there was ‘Projek IC’ in the past and we will deal with it and continue to solve that problem,” he stressed.
