MIRI: The central police station (CPS) here is still its old self, even after 40 years, says Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd during a visit yesterday.

It was his second visit to the station yesterday.

The first time was when he served here (Miri), the second posting after Sibu during his early years in the force.

“I am touched because this is my second visit here since I hold the position as CID director. I see there is no change even after nearly 40 years since I left Miri in the 1980s.

“But the location is very good as a central police station. I hope that our report to the top management will be brought to the ministry concerned to at least build a new building or improve the condition of the current building,” he said.

Wan Ahmad served in Miri for three years before being transferred to Marudi as Baram district police chief.

Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah was also present during the visit.

The Miri Central Police Station was built in 1953.

The then deputy minister of home affairs Dato Sri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar during a visit to the station on May 13, 2014 said the Ministry of Home Affairs would discuss with the relevant authorities to expedite the approval process and construction of a new police station to replace the current station.

He acknowledged that the building was already too old and no longer conducive for policemen to carry out their jobs.

Assistant Minister of Tourism Datuk Lee Kim Shin, who also visited the station on July 3 last year, also called for a new building to be built to replace the current one.

Lee also said he had brought up the matter (to build new CPS building) to the ministry concerned many times, but has yet to receive any reply.
