KUCHING: Over 100 golfers are competing in this weekend’s SEDC Trophy Golf Championship at Damai Golf and Country Club (DGCC).

Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) deputy general manager Edwin Abit said the event is being held over two consecutive days to accommodate the large number of participants including local dignitaries.

“We are satisfied with the encouraging response even though there are a lot of other golf events being held in Kuching and Kota Samarahan over this weekend,” he added.

The corporate golf event, which is divided into Open and Invited Guests categories, is held annually to foster better relations among the participants who are from all over Kuching and other divisions.

The youngest participant is 13-year-old Mohd Hadif Fathely who is a member of the State junior golf squad while the most senior player is 64-year-old Mohamad Azhar Ramli.

Among the exciting lucky draw prizes is a return air ticket to Shenzhen, China while the
hole-in-one prize is a Nissan Serena Hybrid car worth RM150,000.

SEDC chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Husain is expected to due to play in the Invited Guest category on Sunday with other VIPs.

Meanwhile, DGCC general manager Roslan Mohd Salleh said yesterday that the club’s course conditions are perfect for those aiming to record good scores.
