KUALA LUMPUR: The government is refining existing entrepreneurship schemes and has no plans to abolish them, says Entrepreneur Development Minister Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof.

He said the schemes in the process of empowerment include the Secretariat for the Advancement of Malaysian Entrepreneurs (SAME), more than 50 per cent of whose members are Chinese small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

“Whatever scheme we have, we will improve, and the government is formulating a strategy to be announced this November,” he said when winding up debate on the 11th Malaysia Plan Mid-term Review (11MP MTR) for his ministry here yesterday.

Mohd Redzuan said his ministry is formulating an inclusive and competitive national entrepreneur development policy following the tabling of the 11MP MTR on Oct 18.

He said the comprehensive and integrated policy will focus on the bottom 40 per cent household income group (B40) and social entrepreneurs in a bid to raise the people’s standard of living.

He stressed that programmes organised by SAME will still continue in spirit despite the absorption of two of its officers into his ministry.

“With these efforts, we hope to create a more inclusive system for entrepreneurs as well as produce more competitive entrepreneurs,” he added.

SAME was launched on Oct 1, 2014 during the previous administration, aimed at assisting SMEs in all dimensions. — Bernama
