MIRI: The Sarawak government has agreed and approved a large allocation of RM1.5 billion to implement 43 infrastructure projects covering the parliamentary constituency of Baram, which included Telang Usan and Mulu state constituencies.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the projects are road (RM1.264.0 million with a total of 21 projects), water supply (RM210.0 million with a total of 20 projects), and electricity supply (RM25.6 million with a total of two projects).
He told reporters this after launching of Highland Development Agency (HDA) area community leaders, village headmen and non-governmental organisations special briefing which was attended by some 300 participants at a hotel here today.
Uggah, who is also the Minister of Agricultural Modernisation, Native Land and Regional Development and HDA chairman said Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg has also agreed to appoint Regional Corridor Development Authority (Recoda) as the implementing agency to implement the approved development projects according to the time stipulated from 2019 to 2020.
Adding further, he said the potential of transforming and developing agricultural products including livestock and also the tourism in HDA areas are vast and it could be the next Cameron Highlands of Malaysia.
Therefore, Uggah said development in these areas are being implemented in stages by the government.
