KUCHING: A 48-year-old habitual drug user has been sentenced to five years in jail and to be given one stroke of whipping for administering himself with dangerous drugs namely Amphetamine and Methamphetamine.
He committed the offence on July 7 2018 when the police tested him positive of the drugs. He was not represented by any lawyer when appearing at the courthouse on Friday.
The accused, a Zulkiplee Maan from Jalan Astana Lot here, had two previous convictions for similar offences and was also ordered to undergo a two-year supervision by the relevant authorities upon his release from prison.
Zulkiplee pleaded guilty before a Magistrates Court here on Friday to the charge framed under Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 and he was sentenced under Section 39C (1) of the same Act.
The five years’ imprisonment and one stroke of the rotan is the minimum penalty for any offender under the Act.
