UMS medical student broke both legs after falling from hostel corridor

KOTA KINABALU: A medical student from University Malaysia Sabah (UMS) broke both her legs after falling five feet from the female hostel corridor while trying to retrieve her towel, today.

The third-year medical degree student from Pulau Pinang was believed trying to retrieve her towel that was dangling over a railing along the corridor on the tenth floor of the female hostel when she slipped and fell, about five feet, and landed on top of a roof on the seventh floor.

A friend who witnessed the incident immediately informed auxiliary police and the university management before she was taken to hospital.

Kota Kinabalu police chief ACP Habibi Majinji said police investigation revealed the incident happened around 10.30am at one of the female hostel, when the 21-year-old victim believed to had climbed over the rail to retrieve her towel.

“The girls used to hang their towels on the rail by the corridor as there was more sunlight in that area.

Habibi said a student heard a loud bang and when she went to look, saw the victim lying on the roof.

“She manage to wave to her friend for help,” said Habibi.

The student was taken to the Likas hospital and doctors confirmed that she had broke both her legs.

“She is under doctors’ supervision and is in good health,” he said.
