KUCHING: The State government is urged to build alternative water supply to overcome the problem of interrupted water supply in Engkilili.

Engkilili assemblyman Dr Johnical Rayong Ngipa said treated and non-treated water supply is a daily problem in most of the longhouses and villages in his constituency.

He emphasised that even though there is a water supply plant in Engkilili, Sebeliau and Skrang, water supply from this plant is often interrupted and sometimes halted for more than a week.

“To overcome this problem, I would like to urge the government to build an alternative water supply that can provide either treated or non-treated water.

“We do not want to see people to bathe in the well or in the river again. We do not want people to carry buckets to transport water from the river again. At least, the people in my area are supplied with temporary barrels or tanks, ” he said in his 2019 state budget debate during the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting today.

Dr Johnnical suggested longhouses areas at Batang Air Hilir, Skrang Hilir, Lidong Bangat, Tanjong, Enteban, Memaloi, Semueh, San Semanju, Merindun, Sg Keruh Engkilili need to be prioritised for the problem to be solved promptly.
