KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah state government yesterday announced a bonus payment of RM500 for every state civil servant to be paid together with the salary for December.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, when tabling the 2019 Sabah state budget said the payment was in appreciation for the deeds and contributions rendered by the civil servants in the various sectors who had helped the government in delivering services to the people.

“With the appreciation, we are depending on the civil service as the government’s administrative machinery to take Sabah to greater success,” he said.

Mohd Shafie, who is also the finance minister, said that to enhance capability, professionalism and efficiency of the civil servants, the state government also encouraged the continuous learning culture including mastering new skills.

He said that beginning next year, a total of RM9.56 million in scholarship had been provided for qualified civil servants to follow short-term courses at prestigious learning centres abroad under the Domestic and Foreign Training Programme handled by the State Civil Service Department.

“Among the prestigious learning centres and high performance foreign institutions include the University of Cambrigde and University of Oxford in England as well as the Harvard University, in the United States,” he added. — Bernama
