KUCHING: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Women chief Zuraida Kamaruddin admitted that the run-up to PKR party election is marred by controversies.

The Federal Minister for Housing and Local Government lamented: “I solemnly believe, many of us realise that the current party election can be considered as one of the most challenging that we have ever faced since the inception of the People’s Justice Party (or PKR).”

“Marred by controversies, it seems as if we have yet to uphold the democracy agenda in line with the spirit of “Reformasi” in the dawn of a new Malaysia,” Zuraida who is Ampang MP said.

With the implementation of the new digital election system, PKR has faced problems such as bad Internet connections, loss of votes, dubious registration of new voters and many more issues that have put the party in a bad light.

In Julau, thousands of new members are registered with insufficient data and the same address for hundreds of individuals.

The decision to hold a re-election in Tawau, Pensiangan and Keningau division which had been proven previously to be held according to the party election rules and regulation is also questionable.

“It seems that there is an existence of hidden hands trying to orchestrate the party election for personal agenda,” said Zuraida who herself is one of the party vice president candidates.

“However, as a member of Keadilan, we must always be prepared to do our part to ensure the future leaders that will take the helm of the party consist of individuals that are trustworthy, ethical and has the ability to safeguard the interest of the party members above all else,” she said.

As part of the present government, PKR must be represented by those who have shown the ability to lead and to take this party to greater heights, she said.

“We need to stop all the rhetoric and stand together in opposing those who are using their influence to sabotage the party, for the sake of winning this election.

“We must also reject candidates who failed to stand on their own and frequently invoking the names of other leaders in order to gain votes.”

“ I would like to ask our friends in Jelebu (Negeri Sembilan), Kuala Selangor (Selangor), Keningau (Sabah), Tawau (Sabah), Pensiangan (Sabah), Alor Gajah (Melaka), Masjid Tanah (Melaka), Tangga Batu (Melaka), Kota Melaka (Melaka), Jasin (Melaka) and the whole state of Sarawak, to go out and vote.”

She said with the true spirit of justice and standing in solidarity to uphold the truth, the party will be able to stop those who are ruining the party with their despicable antics.

PKR election via e-voting  ends tomorrow with Sarawak members and those in the Tawau, Keningau and Persaingan re-election (in Sabah) as the last group to cast their votes. Sarawak PKR have 29 branches and around 50,000 members.
