KUCHING: Friendship between China and Malaysia has grown since diplomatic relations was established in 1974.

Consul General of the People Republic of China in Kuching, Cheng Guangzhong said this in his opening speech at a photo exhibition – ‘Together We Build A Better Future’ in Boulevard Shopping Mall here yesterday.

“The year 2018 marks the 40th anniversary of China‘s reform and opening up as well as 44 years of diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia,” he said.

To commemorate this, Embassy of the People Republic of China in Malaysia and Malaysia-China Culture and Arts Association co-organised the photo exhibition.

The photo exhibition was launched in Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC) in September before moving to Sarawak with about 200 valuable photos.

The photos captured changes in the economy and society of China over the past 40 years and the extraordinary path that China and Malaysia had taken together.

“I believe that from the historical pictures on display, we can review the hardship and difficulties that China and Malaysia had gone through earlier and draw on the strength and wisdom to promote greater development for both (countries),” he added.

Among those present were Cheng’s wife Gao Cuilian, Minister of International Trade and E-commerce Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh, Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian and Kuching Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry vice-president Christopher Ngui.

The photo exhibition is currently at second floor of the new wing at Boulevard Shopping Mall here (near Mr DIY) until Nov 12 from 10.30am to 9pm. Admission is free.
