Angel completes KGS Club hat-trick

KUCHING: Young golfer Angel Hii lived up to expectations to lead from post to pillar and win the Ladies Club Championship for the third consecutive year in the KGS Club Championship at Kelab Golf Sarawak, Petra Jaya yesterday.

The 14-year old shot a gross score of 79 strokes on Saturday and registered another 80 yesterday for a two-day total of 159 to finish 16 strokes ahead of another junior golfer Eva Puyang Deng.

Asha Nabeela Abdul Rahman was third with a score of 179 strokes while the nett title was won by Lia Rajemah Shermanie who carded a 140, leading second-placed Song Jungeon also by 16 strokes.

Angel received RM1,000 goods voucher, challenge trophy, champion’s trophy, green jacket and one-year allocated parking lot at KGS.

She has also booked the ticket to play in the Champion of Champions golf championship next year and this win is certainly a great confidence for her as she goes into the World Junior Golf Championship in Thailand this week.f

The Ladies daily prizes saw Angelie Jerembai Ong and Noor Afrina Ain Ibrahim walking away with the Day 1 gross and Day 2 gross prizes respectively while the Ladies Day 1 nett prize was won by Lee Yoon Soo.

Muhammad Hadif Fathely held on to his first day lead and posted a similar gross score of 76 yesterday for a two-day total of 152 to claim the Open crown.

He received RM1,500 goods voucher, challenge trophy, champion’s trophy, green jacket and one-year allocated parking lot at KGS.

Two other juniors Saxen Hii Shang Yao and Aziel Teo Ken Yi made it a junior clean sweep of the top three positions when they returned scores of 157 and 159 respectively.

The fourth to sixth positions were occupied by defending champion Daniel Yeo Thian Chai (160), Benjamin Ethan (161) and Mohammad Lokman Mustaffa (162).

In the nett category, Helmi Hipni was the champion with 148 strokes, followed by Elden Sim Zhen (149) and Harold Tok Kwan Hang (150).

The winners of the Day 1 and Day 2 gross prizes were Bernard Yeo and Matthew Peregrine Ong while the winners of the Day 1 and Day 2 nett prizes were Yahya Dato Ibrahim and Ng Liang Yew.

Meanwhile, defending champion Abdul Aziz Sahari had a good game yesterday where he shot a 75, bouncing back from Saturday’s 86 for a two-day total of 161 strokes to make a successful defence of his title.

Aziz also received a RM1,500 goods voucher, challenge trophy, champion’s trophy, green jacket and one-year allocated parking lot at KGS.

Early leader Bernett Ling Soon Kiong was beaten on count back (OCB) by Sarawak Golf Association president Hoan Kee Hock into third place after both returned similar scores of 165.

Calvin Kong Chak Wan (170), Yakop Jalel (175) and Waili Abang finished in fourth to sixth placings.

Abang Shamsudin Abang Salleh won the nett title with his score of 148 while Hat @ Bong Hata Merzuki and Sahdi Sama’on @ Saadi Sama’on were second and third with 149 and 151 respectively.

The main prizes were given away by Mazlan Mohamad Salleh who is the KGS Deputy Captain as well as the tournament chairman.

Also present were KGS secretary Pauline Gan and treasurer Francis Chapman.
