Man reports death threat by businessman with ‘Dato’ title

SIBU: A man in Sarikei lodged a police report yesterday purportedly fearing for his safety, following commotion in an incident involving ‘heated exchange of words’ at the voting centre in Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sarikei division.

Sarikei District police chief Superintendent Awang Arfian Awang Bujang said the report, naming a businessman with a ‘Dato’ title as the suspect who would allegedly call up a gangster group to hit and kill the complainant.

According to the complainant, he was informed by a friend regarding the threats, after the heated exchange of words between the complainant and the man involved.

“Immediately after that, the complainant acted to lodge a police report for fear of his safety.The heated exchange of words between both men occurred in front of the voting centre in New Fortune, near here (Sarikei) at 10.50am, but the police managed to calm the situation down,” Awang Arfian said in a media statement yesterday.

The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code.
