Maybank congratulates S’wak govt for coming up with ambitious, surplus 2019 State Budget

KUCHING: Malayan Banking Berhad (Maybank) has congratulated Sarawak government for coming up with an ambitious and surplus 2019 State Budget.

This was relayed by Maybank Group head of global banking Datuk Muzaffar Hisham to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg when leading a courtesy visit by Maybank on the latter at the State Legislative Assembly today.

“This is our courtesy visit following the announcement of the budget. On behalf of the management, we always give full support to Sarawak state. The agenda for the Sarawak state in 2019 is big.

“God willing, Maybank can play a part not only in terms of the banking needs of the people in Sarawak but also to the state for the various projects and infrastructure implementation.

“We have been continuing the support to the state not just to the government but also to the various Sarawak companies,” he told reporters after the visit.

He added senior management from from Sarawak and Maybank Group global bank and corporate investment team joined him for the meeting with Abang Johari.

“Today’s courtesy visit to Chief Minister is also to reaffirm Maybank’s commitment to Sarawak state,” he said.

Also present was Maybank Sarawak regional director Nasir Khan Istiar Hussain Khan.

On Nov 5, Abang Johari presented a rural development-biased 2019 State Budget, by proposing a substantial allocation of RM9.073 billion for development expenditure, of which RM6.049 billion or 67 per cent will be provided for the development of rural areas.

Taking into account an estimated total revenue of RM10.513 billion and a total proposed Ordinary Expenditure of RM10.391 billion, he said the proposed 2019 Budget is expected to generate a surplus of RM122 million.
