MIRI: The Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) state committee criticises the decision made by DUN speaker Datuk Amar Mohjd Asfia Awang Nassar to refer Wong King Wei (DAP-Padungan) to the privileges committee as ‘ridiculous’ and ‘an abuse of power’.

DAP Sarawak secretary senator Alan Ling Sie Liong said the party is in solidarity with their comrade Wong as the decision that was made against him yesterday was most unfair as Wong was merely making suggestions to improve the functions of the August House.

Ling said it is not wrong for an honourable member of the House to provide inputs and ideas touching on the democratic functions of the House.

“Perhaps, Sarawak DUN will only be reformed if PH took over the state government in 2021,” he remarked in a statement posted in his Facebook on Tuesday.

Ling added that if Pakatan Harapan ( PH) was mandated to run the state administration, one of the priorities is to make the state’s 150 year-old August House a world class state legislative assembly in compliance with a true democratic principle where elected representatives are given latitude and space to have his or her voices heard in the August House, among others.
