Inaugural Malay Cultural cum Food Festival to be held from Nov 16-25

SIBU: A Cultural cum Food Festival will be held at Sibu Town Square Phase 2 here from Nov 16 to 25 by Sibu Malay Community Association.

The objectives of the festival are to promote Malay culture and food besides having better rapport with other communities.

“This inaugural event will have 20 stalls selling food and drinks and 20 others selling a variety of merchandise. The highlight will be ‘Bermukun’ and ‘Busana Pengantin’ competitions with a team from Brunei, Sri Aman, Daro, Matu besides local teams,” its chairman Rabek Ali Hamid told reporters yesterday.

Rabek said the top three winners of ‘Bermukun’ competition will bag RM1,500, RM1,200 and RM1,000 respectively, while the top three winners of ‘Busana Pengantin’ will get RM1,000, RM800 and  RM600 respectively. Other activities will be fun fair, karaoke singing competition and a Malay traditional dance performance.

Meanwhile, Rabek said the 40 stalls will open from 5pm till 11pm, while stage programme will start from 8.15 till 11pm.
