ALOR SETAR: The Kedah state assembly sitting was informed yesterday that Guar Chempedak state assemblyman Datuk Dr. Ku Abdul Rahman Ku Ismail has quit Umno and is now an independent people’s representative.

The announcement was made by state assembly speaker Datuk Ahmad Kassim as soon as the sitting began this morning, before the start of the oral question session.

“I was informed of this through a letter I received yesterday (sunday)…so his seating in the House will be changed,” he said.

Ku Abdul Rahman, 62, who is from Yan near here, won in the general election last May, defeating PAS candidate Musoddak Ahmad.

He has been a Barisan Nasional (BN) state assemblyman since 2008 and was appointed state exco member from 2013 until 2018.

He holds a doctorate degree in Rubber Science from Loughborough University, United Kingdom, and served as political secretary to former Defence Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar from 1997 until 2001. — Bernama
