KUCHING: Pakatan Harapan (PH) Sarawak has been urged to emulate National Higher Education Corporation Fund (PTPTN) chairman Wan Saiful Wan Jan if they think they have overpromised and cannot deliver their promises.
Minister of Education, Science and Technological Research Dato Sri Michael Manyin Jawong said Wan Saiful had tendered his apologies openly after PH failed to fulfil its promises on PTPTN.
Quoting Wan Saiful, Manyin said that he (Wan Saiful) drafted the manifesto which PH now cannot fulfil.
Wan Saiful had said that he is fully responsible for it and therefore he apologised.
To this, Manyin said that there a saying “to err is human to forgive is also human but to forget is divine”.
“So if you are really a gentleman, please apologise and we will accept your apology.
“Because we are not divine, we will not forget your promises,” he said when taking questions from Chong Chieng Jen (DAP-Kota Sentosa) during his ministerial winding-up debate on the seventh day of 18th State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting here today.
The Tebedu assemblyman had earlier said that it seems PH never stopped blaming the previous government.
“Former minister Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz and Council of Eminem Persons chairman Tun Daim Zainuddin have echoed for the PH government to stop blaming the previous government and start to work.
“That why I said the ball is at your feet. It is time to score now,” he said.
Chong had earlier accused the state government treating the federal budget as automated teller machine (ATM).
He also said that Manyin has misled the people once about the proportion percentage of federal development budget.
“Now in this August House he has misled again,” he said.
Chong retorted that PH has never promised 30 per cent of the budget for Sarawak.
“It was 30 per cent was for Sabah and Sarawak.
“The promise cannot be delivered because of the current financial predicament of the federal government and that was due to Sarawak Barisan Nasional (being the) partner in crime of Najib Razak,” he said.
