KOTA KINABALU: Tamparuli assemblyman Datuk Jahid Jahim has urged the State Government to address the issue of non-citizen children being allowed to enter Primary One of government primary schools beginning January 1 next year.

He said this would erode the rights of Malaysian children, noting that about 300,000 non-citizen children enter Primary One each year.

“These children are not citizens and have no documentation,” he said.

Jahim called on the State Government to bring this matter up to its federal counterpart to prevent this from happening.

He also urged the government to investigate reports of people queuing at the Immigration Department as early as 4.30 am to apply for IMM13.

He raised this when debating the State Budget 2019 at the State Legislative Assembly sitting yesterday.
