KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Works expected to implement a fully digitalised procurement system named E-Works in 2020, said its minister Baru Bian.
He said the system is still under the development phase and it would take two years to complete before it could fully be used in all ministries.
“E-Works will reform the governance and procurement system to a greater transparency. It is not going to be implemented yet… it is still at a stage where the ministry needs to find the best way how it will be implemented in 2020.
“The main purpose of the system is to avoid any compromise on the procurement process and make it more transparent,” he said in a press conference after the launching of the 44th International Federation of Asian and Western Pacific Contractors’ Associations (IFAWPCA) Convention at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre here yesterday.
E-Work is the online platform for procurement process involving government constructions and projects as well as the site for the ministries to advertise tenders.
Also present were the president of IFAWPCA, Datuk Matthew Tee, president of Master Builders Associations Malaysia (MBAM) Foo Chek Lee, and Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) Malaysia chairman, Tan Sri Dr Ir Ahmad Tajuddin Ali.
About 1,000 participants from 20 countries across Asia and Western Pacific region are attending the four-day convention, which began yesterday.
Meanwhile, Baru urged the contractors and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to enhance their supervision on construction sites to avoid flash floods in the city, particularly during rainy seasons now.
“Those (in construction sites) have to be more careful, particularly in the supervision and overseeing on what is going on at the construction sites,” he said. — Bernama
