KUCHING: It was a proud moment for 345 graduands of SEGi College Sarawak when they received their scrolls at the 2018 Convocation Ceremony of the college here yesterday.

The ceremony also conferred and honoured 25 First Class high achievers in their respective fields of study.

In his speech at the convocation ceremony held at one of the international hotels here, SEGi College Sarawak chief executive Datu Putit Matzen said the convocation is a transition point for all of the graduands.

“You have pursued your academic endeavour with great dedication and hard work to maintain high standards and build capacities; earning qualification and awards. But, know this, your journey does not stop here! It will not end until you feel fully confident of meeting life’s uncertainties and challenges – embracing successes and failures with a positive attitude,” he advised.

Yesterday’s convocation was also a memorable day for parents, partners, families and friends.

“Without the support of those nearest to us, this proud achievement could not be earned. Your belief in and support for our students have enabled their success. The life values instilled have also helped the graduands – giving them support during challenging moments in the pursuit of knowledge. Indeed, you are also a special part of this celebration!

“Today, you join the generations of SEGi’s men and women who provide service around the world in every field of human endeavour. You are already awakened to the realities of intense competition and acquired capacity to take advantage of competitive environment,” Putit added.

Meanwhile, principal of SEGi College Sarawak, Doreen D’orville, said the graduands’ dedication, combined with the education that they have received, will ensure their future success.

“Never give up, be inspired, have confidence, adapt, and above all, aim high in whatever you do. This is a time of great opportunity for you. Recognise and expand your potential. You are ‘tomorrow makers’ – leaders of the future! Get into action and make the world a better place!,” she added.

Among those present at the convocation were Professor Michael Young, deputy vice-chancellor (Academic) of the University of Sunderland, United Kingdom; and principal lecturer of University of Greenwich, Faculty of Business, International Collaborations representative (SE Asia), Raj Dass.
